Monophonics uit San Francisco staat garant voor aanstekelijke, psychedelische funky soul die doet denken aan het beste van Curtis Mayfield, Sly Stone, George Clinton en de gehele Stax-catalogus. In 2005 gestart als een instrumentaal vijftal verwerkt de band steeds meer invloeden uit de meer filmische soul, zware funk, 60's rock en spaghetti westerns en sinds een aantal jaren hebben ze met Kelly Finnigan een zeer enigmatische en bevlogen zanger in de rangen.

Het is tijdens concerten zo goed als onbegonnen werk om niet helemaal opgezogen te worden in de wonderlijke muzikale trip die de Monophonics steevast serveren. Zo ook tijdens hun passages in de Trix Bar in 2012 en in 2015, waarbij stilstaan geen optie was en achteraf iedereen zichzelf als fan voor het leven uitriep. In 2020 brachten ze een derde voltreffer van een plaat uit, getiteld It's Only Us. Moet het nog gezegd worden dat wij zware fans zijn van deze band? En we zijn in goed gezelschap:
