Philine
Philippine has been writing songs from an early age. “My mother has been writing songs for as long as I can remember. When I was little, she would come up with her own lullabies on guitar and would sing my sisters and I to sleep with them. This made it very natural to me to start writing my own songs.” Philippine her musical interests were influenced by the musical taste of her parents; her mother always listened to country singer-songwriters and her father always put on music from the 80’s.
In 2018, Philippine began her journey at the conservatory in Rotterdam by studying Pop Vocals, and in 2020 she started to collaborate with producer Mischa Dirksen and guitarist Max van Rijs. This is when the idea of a debut EP was founded. “I wanted to tell my stories in a way that could embrace my love of country music as well as my love for 80’s music, but in a modern pop way. It differs per song which influences come to the surface the most, but what binds the songs of the EP together are the honest and straight-forward lyrics and my voice.” The sound of the EP was inspired by artists such as Lennon Stella, Sasha Sloan, Orla Gartland and Julia Michaels.
